Embecta sought a system capable of rapidly validating prototype parts for their insulin patch pump devices. If proven successful, this system would also be integrated into the quality control processes at their manufacturing facilities. This project aimed to address this challenge and deliver an effective solution.
This fixture enables rapid air leak testing using a USON machine. The fixture easily clamps down on the part to be tested and a program is run on the USON machine. Ease of use, reliability, and adjustability were all taken into account when designing this fixture.
I designed the fixture to be modular, with multiple inserts for different parts and configurations. Fine tune adjustments of the clamp can also be made in the x, y, and z directions with a lockout on each axis.
I also designed two attachments that can be easily bolted on with two M6 screws. The plunger reset tool allows for rapid reseting of the part so it can be tested again. The Zaber motor attachment holds a programable motor in place so parts can be dynamically leak tested.
