Sparrow is a robot that streamlines the fulfillment process by moving individual products before they get packaged. Leveraging computer vision and artificial intelligence, Sparrow can recognize and handle millions of items. While Sparrow can flawlessly pick many items, there are still some that it struggles with.
I was part of a team working on the next generation of the Sparrow end-of-arm tool (EOAT), focusing on expanding its ability to pick a wider range of items. My contributions included designing, building, and testing various finger mechanisms to improve the handling of irregularly shaped items. To achieve this, I leveraged linkages and cables to minimize electronic and software complexity. I incorporated the complete finger designs into fully functional EOAT prototypes.
