Custom Phone Cases
This project was inspired by Apple's introduction of the MagSafe technology for iPhone, which enables the use of magnetic accessories with the device. The MagSafe system consists of ring of magnets embedded in the back of the iPhone, and a corresponding set of magnets in compatible accessories. The magnets are strong enough to hold the accessory securely in place, while still allowing for easy attachment and detachment. The MagSafe technology works great with proprietary cases, but it struggles to maintain a strong connection when an aftermarket case is used. To address this issue, I developed a solution by adding extra magnets to the aftermarket phone cases. This enhancement improves the magnetic connectivity between the phone and the accessory, allowing for the full utilization of MagSafe technology. The initial case used with this project is called the limitless 3.0 case by Mous which is shown below.
To start the process, the carbon fiber backing was removed from the case. The magnets were placed under this layer allowing for the closest proximity to the accessory.
The completed case appears like new but now has the added functionality of MagSafe
Cases from the popular brand, Casetify, were also modified. This process was more simple, as there was no backing to be removed.
